About Us - A Different Approach and Value System
Christine Arthur, CPA founded Arthur & Associates LC in 2009 in response to her concerns about the quality and service nonprofits were receiving from their present public accounting firms; both large and small. As a partner, specializing in serving nonprofits in a large national firm, she witnessed firsthand the lack of support and attention nonprofit clients and the accounting professionals who served them received in favor of the “next big for-profit client”. She understood that this lack of attention, service and commitment on the part of the typical public accounting firm was driven by the economics of the business model due to the lower fees and smaller size of many nonprofit clients. However, she believed that other qualities, values and factors were as important as the bottom line in running a professional services company.
She believed that nonprofits could best be served by a public accounting firm focused squarely on serving the nonprofit community and those who support it:
- a firm whose principals are true nonprofit experts and work on-site with the client and are proud to serve this community;
- a firm that trains its staff in the unique tax and accounting rules governing nonprofits and oversees the application of those rules so that its clients can achieve the highest level of external financial reporting possible;
- a firm that understands the complex management and governance model of nonprofit organizations and guides their clients in adopting best practices in this area;
- a firm that assigns only experienced and nonprofit trained professionals to its nonprofit clients and keeps them on the engagement year- to- year;
- a firm that understands the economic constraints of nonprofit organizations and proactively works with them to lower professional fees;
- a firm that gives back to the nonprofit community and supports the missions of its clients through contributions of time, talent and financial resources;
Arthur & Associates LC is such a firm and was founded on the belief that nonprofits deserve highly trained and qualified professionals providing them with a wide range of financial services at an affordable price.

Academy Scholarships - Arthur & Associates continues to support the University of Utah Nonprofit Academy of Excellence by offering a $500 tuition scholarship for the spring semester 2011. Inquiries about this scholarship should be directed to the Academy.
